NewslettersOne of the aims of the society is to publish information concerning the past of Cirencester and its environs. This has been achieved by publishing Newletters containing short articles and, recently, short reports on talks held during the year. Longer studies have been published as the Miscellany series. All publications to up to Newsletter 52 have been lodged with the Gloucestershire Archives. Details of how to find them is given in Newsletter 49. This newsletter also discusses our project to influence new place names in Cirencester by historical references, and some local public art.The contents of the publications can be found in the tabs left. We do have a small stock of back numbers of both Newsletters and Miscellany. If we have what you want, back issues of Newsletters are £3 each and of Miscellany are £5 from our editor. The Society is keen to have assistance for future publications. If you feel up to editing or even researching new material, our Editor will be pleased to hear from you. If you have material suitable for publication in short form about some aspect of local history we may be able to helpNewsletter 52: July 2010 12pp A4•Editorial•Lecture Reports 2009-10 season•Just the Ticket: Travel and transport in Cirencester by road canal and rail - Linda Viner•Researching F W Constable of Cirencester and Fairford - David VinerNewsletter 51: April 2010 4pp A4•The Society's publications at Gloucestershire Archives•Obituary: Alan McWhirr, Society President 1987-97 - David Viner•Annual ReportMost early Newsletters contain an annual report, notes and news. These do not just give a flavour of the society, but changes in the town are often mentioned. Reports of the previous season’s lectures are rare until 2005, when they became a regular feature. We thus have little information on lectures given before then, except for the prestigious Croome Lectures. Early ones also contain editorial and treasurer's report. Early treasurers all seem to have been employees, even managers, of Lloyds Bank, where our account is to this day!. Most newsletters also list the committee of the day. Only article titles and authors where known are listed below. Be warned, the list is necessarily long, so printing this page may not be a good idea.
